A vertical farm is an indoor growing system that makes use of vertical space instead of horizontal: multiple levels stacked on top of each other, each with its own dedicated LED lighting.

How to set up
a multi-level system

01

Measure the depth of your shelves

Choose the bar’s length and power based on the depth of each shelf and the scenario closest to your project, to evenly cover the entire growing surface.

02

Mount one bar per level

Fix a lamp under the upper shelf to light the one below, repeating the same identical model on every level of the shelving.

03

Connect everything to a control unit

Join the 0–10V outputs of all the bars to an ORTOLED control unit to adjust intensity and light/dark cycles for every level from a single control point.

How much space is needed between shelves?
It depends on the crop, but generally 35–45 cm between shelves leaves enough room for both the plant and the LED bar. For low-growing crops or early cycles, you can go down to 25–30 cm by choosing an Under Canopy profile.
Are ORTOLED lamps suitable for hydroponic or NFT crops?
Yes. All ORTOLED lamps are IP65 certified, so resistant to moisture and water jets: an essential feature in hydroponic environments where condensation and misting are common.
Can I control multiple levels with a single control unit?
Yes. By connecting the 0–10V outputs of all the bars to an EC4330 control unit, you can manage up to 4 independent channels and up to 30 lamps total from a single control point, with simulated sunrise/sunset functions.
How much energy does a multi-level LED system save compared to a traditional one?
